Do home inspectors check for termites?

When termites are observed, inspectors typically document this in their inspection reports and advise that a licensed termite inspector evaluate and address the issue. Home inspectors are not authorized to declare termite damage or identify signs of termites unless they hold a State termite inspection license, called a J-Card. These evaluations are conducted by a licensed Wood Destroying Organism (WDO) inspector or Wood Destroying Insect (WDI) inspector. WDO/WDI inspectors possess the expertise to identify such issues, including wood rot throughout the property. Some home inspection companies also conduct termite inspections if they have obtained the necessary State license or have employed a State licensed professional.
