Wind Mitigation Inspections
This is a unique inspection for the state of Florida.
A Wind Mitigation report is basically a discount incentive for insurance. Any of the 6 items listed on the Wind Mitigation report that meets the State's standards for those items receives an additional discount on their insurance.
The 6 items are:
1) The Roof
2) The openings which includes all doors, windows and garage doors on the home
3) A stray nail on a rafter which the length is measured seeking a 6d (2 inch nail) or an 8d (2 1/2 inch nail) securing the roof deck to the rafter
4) Hurricane clips connecting the rafter to the wall plate
5) Nail span of the nails in the rafters, which should be 6 inches or less apart
6) Secondary Water Resistance (SWR) which is is a peel and stick fiberglass layer instead of felt that used to be used between the shingles or other roofing material and the roof decking.

What's Included In Your Wind Mitigation Inspection?
During a wind mitigation inspection, a certified inspector evaluates various aspects of the home's construction and features that can affect its resistance to wind damage.
A wind mitigation report formed based on the Wind Mitigation Act in 2006 after the devastation created by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
This report is not a pass or fail, rather a Florida discount incentive report. For each of the elements of this inspection that meets the State's standards, there is an additional discount on insurance. See the video for further information and what you need to have in order to receive a discount for that item.
Roof Covering
The inspector assesses the type, age, and condition of the roof covering materials, as well as the method of installation and any reinforcements.
Roof Deck Attachment
The attachment method of the roof deck to the roof framing is evaluated to determine its strength and resistance to uplift forces.
Roof-To-Wall Connections
The connections between the roof structure and the walls of the home are inspected to ensure they are properly secured and reinforced to resist wind uplift.
Roof Geometry
The shape and design of the roof, including the slope and the presence of hip or gable ends, can impact its ability to withstand wind forces.
Secondary Water Resistance
The presence of a secondary water barrier, such as a self-adhering underlayment, can help prevent water intrusion in case of roof covering damage.
Opening Protection
The inspector examines the types of windows, doors, and other openings (including garage doors) in the home to assess their resistance to wind-driven debris.
